“Those who admire [Silberstein’s] artistry will no doubt want to consider this disc.”

After my first album, which contained first recordings of Vittorio Giannini’s piano music and new recordings of Bloch’s rarely heard piano music, I decided to explore a more familiar composer. And who could be more familiar than Franz Liszt?

But I didn’t program my Liszt recording with familiar Liszt pieces. Instead of the famous First Mephisto Waltz, I chose Liszt’s late-period Third Mephisto Waltz. Instead of one of Liszt’s famous Rákóczi March, I played the Goethe-Festival March. And I also included some of Liszt’s seldom-performed lyrical music: the Berceuse and the Piano Piece in F-sharp Major. I closed the program with Liszt’s “Romanian” Rhapsody rather than with one of the beloved Hungarian Rhapsodies.

Recorded for a small Italian start-up label in the late 1990s, this album is now a real rarity, available only by contacting me directly for purchase.
